A little plae got my attention a few weeks ago in a hobbyshop in Gothenburg. I got the first few bits assembled and have the interior ready for painting.

Onward and upward!

Bolt Action Americans

Before Xmas I got a thick letter from a little island west of here out in the atlantic, and inside were a number of bags filled with 20mm americans waiting to be painted, and then they waited a little longer.. But today before work they got primed, and when I got home I spent some time painting for the first time in quite some while.
The picture do them no justice, but I save quality for when they are done.

German Infantry wip

After reading through the "bolt action" rules I felt I had to paint some more infantry to test the rules with, and since I have only painted 1/3 of my "plastic soldier company" models it was easy to get moving!

Solo DBA-AAR.

So I got around to try this DBA GNW variant, there was only a few models left to paint so I made an exception to my houserule of 'only painted plays'. Don't tell anyone.

The danish army. Built around what I have, nothing historical here.
Camp in the middle, no general.
2xDr, 3xArt, 4xMs, 2xJg, 1xKn

¨
Same here, just grabbed what I had.
3xKn, 2xArt, 6xMs, 1xPk.

The terrain was placed half-random, and the armies rolled off as usual when choosing sides etc.

A few turns into the game, the danes have lost their valiant knights to a lucky cannonball.

The danes splitted the swedish knights at the cost of a dragoon,
the danes are struggling with their cannons to keep the swedish muskets at bay, loosing a stand in the process. 3-0 to the swedes!

The danes manages to surround and kill a knight, and the cannons with the aid of muskets kill another! The swedish muskets on the far flank are struggling to get into melee, but are pushed back by intense artillery fire.

The final turn the swedish cavalry charge and kill the danish jägers,
and the muskets finally get into melee and overwhelms the valiant last musketeers.

All in all a good game, the danish seemed too eager to advance and should perhaps been more defensive with their large artillery battery. The swedish commander got confused when his knights failed to press through the right flank and rolled only 1 pip for a few rounds which gave the danes some time to out manouver some swedes and kill them. This angered the swedish commander and he rolled 6 pip's for the last turns and danes were defeated.

Final thoughts: Sweden made some stupid mistakes at the beginning which were paid for in pip's and blood. But on the other hand so did the danes. Next time there will be more tension! There was more terrain than usual, but most important I think this variant plays better on a larger table. Big Battle DBA should be a blast, with larger and deeper units to the front, and more space for flanking manouvers.

Great Northern War

So, I got bitten bad by this swedish war bug in the vacuum of Dropzone Commander, not wanting to spend any silver untill I know how to get more, the most sensible thing to do was to re-discover my books about GNW and the 1/72 plastics I almost finished painting a while (year?) ago. I also downloaded a file or two from Fanaticus about the DBA extention into the 19-th century, where army lists and rules are for the GNW, among others. Check the period variants section.
I fiddled a bit with this and came up with a little page with rules and army lists for Sweden and Denmark as these are the armies I'll use for now, some DBA-fu is required though...

Try it for yourself here: Linky

This will be the first post without pictures, a sad day indeed. But hopefully I can get another post up soon with some pictures form a test session of this little project!

Fallujah!

Got my book yesterday, this will probably unleash a little more FoF sessions as well as some more scenery. A quick flip through the book shows another great quality book from AA, and I'm glad I got it as it is full of hobby and painting inspiration, something that has been a little low this summer.
Get one yourself!

Modern metal men!

Almost a month since last update, but I have been busy with a lot of things such as work, taking a week long pottery class and driven a diesel volvo on swedens one and only F-1 track. I'm awesome, hell yeah!

On to the relevant stuff, I have been painting a little, but it sure was some weeks ago. I received a little package from Elhiem and I must say that my first impression of their minis was:
Shit... now I have to replace all my plastics!

No I haven't seen the hurt locker, isn't that a movie about an evil closet?

A SoF/Contractor unit perhaps?

Who doesn't need spiritual leaders clad in weirdo robes in the heat of insurgency?

There are some Iraqi minis in the pipeline as well, and after the pottery class I visited my parent's and took over my little brothers 1/35 ww2 Tiger as he didn't want to finish it, woo! I also grabbed a big mysterious box that hasn't been opened since -93... Heavy with nerdpoints, I dragged it all the way here and it is waiting for the right moment to unleach the inner geekdemons furry fury!

Oh, and a Dropzone Commander army is on preorder.

HMMWV's

It so happened that I found a Revell box of two little hmmwv's the other day, the one with an ambulance and a TOW weapon. I picked out my old models and realized I could paint better than I had then so after assembly I painted all of them in one go. A smooth paintjob and some decals to the ambulance and it was over just as quick as it began.. A little sad consequence with these quick-builds.

FoF game and the real deal!

Got time for a solo session of Force on Force yesterday, no AAR here, but a picture at least. :) I had to try the new houses..
The scenario was quite simple, the US started in the big house with a balcony, and had to get to the two stashes of chocolate bars, one north, and one by the truck, and then back to load it to the M113 so it can drive deliver chocolate to all the off board rockstars who have the munchies, all the while the insurgents feel the surge as well and won't give up the candy without a fight! Who put the chocolate there? It's still a mystery...

I had way to few insurgents, it was almost a walk in the park for the US. Lesson learned the easy way!

Now to something different, some weeks ago I went outside to get some groceries, and was surprised to meet a marching formation of karoliner, and quite a few modern military vehicles on the town square, back home to get the camera, and got some nice pictures, sadly the marching soldiers had went off, but here are some other nice pics:

Middle eastern building update

I have been playing a few solo games of Force on Force to get a grip around the rules (which are awesome, and best solo rules I've tried yet!). Then I figured that while my flexible design of tiles still is a bit stiff if I want more or less space between buildings, and I would need a few more smaller buildings too. Said and done, more smaller buildings and the other ripped from the base:

I found a nice piece of sand colored cloth from a textile shop to use instead of the tiles.
Another thing, today I heard the sound of horses outside, and behold, Smålands Husar regiment was riding just outside my window!

I't is a nice thing to live in a small town with military history and not to mention some more modern stuff too, I ran into one of these the other day when taking a stroll in the forest. Those beasts are huge!

British Commandos

FINALLY! I never seem to get any posts here, but I have been fiddling with a bit of everything, including trying to learn to play Force on Force, including some new buildings but more of that later.
Yesterday at work(!)* I finished these boys, and today I based them, they are platoon 20 minis.

The pictures went somewhat color-crazy, but the reality is somewhere between the photos. Klick to see the bigger version:

*I got one of those jobs this summer with sometimes little to do, but with the need to stay sharp(e) and frosty.

Panzers!

Just finished some tanks for my 20mm or 1/72 ww2 germans. As I haven't decided which division these guys are from, so I have waited with the numbers and markings.
The Panthers is a Italeri 2 models kit, and the Pz IV are Plastic Soldier Company 3 models kit. All of them a quick build and nice model to paint.
I added some of PSC's infantry to show the tanks size, klick to enlarge the pictures.

Ze Germans!

I got some Plastic Soldier Company germans in 1/72 scale, and here some of them are painted, I have'nt decided about the bases edge as I thought about color coding different units. Hope you like them, I made a variant of the Oakleaf ss-camo, and I think it turned out quite nice. The medic is a favourite as he stand out in a way that is'nt too obvious. (wash and dirt on the white made sense)

Sunshine on my panzers!

It's too good weather to stay indoors fiddling with plastic today, so I took it outside:

I got my hussars and 20mm germans this monday, yesterday I assembled some infantry and today I wanted to see how the tanks looks like in person. It is wonderful sitting in the sun while gluing again! I got a little stuffed by all the shakos so I'll assemble and paint the hussars after a short vacation to a war torn france.

Opel and Pak 40

I found a plastic kit of Airfix Opel and Pak 40 a few days ago, finished it last night.
The windows are made from thin plastic, I think it look better with than without.
Bases are made of old student id-cards. The grey uniforms looks a bit blue, but in reality it is quite nice. My first gun in 20mm scale, what a blast!

Russian special troopers and more trees!

A while ago I bought some of Under Fires modern Russians as a sof team for FoF, finally got them finished after having them standing on sanded bases forever. Hope you like them, I do!

I also made some more trees, these are the same type, but bigger, as I made for my 6mm boccage gameboard. They are also for sale here.

Dusty Trailer

So, I had some time over to finish my truck I "found" in my fathers collection of plastic fun.
In reality trucks have one use: transport things. Wargamers evolve this to many more things, this truck will be extracted, escorted, bombed, used as cover etc.

So, here it is, click to enlarge:

Insurgent Force

They are scary, bearded and generally unhappy with the world today. No, I don't think about live rpg people, but my force of insurgents! Some elements of them have been seen before, but never as a group. Click to enlarge.

Family shot, Melvin is glaring at me for not given permission to play with all the toys.

I had some GW resin bombs I thought would be perfect for hot spots.

The leaders, tufts to the front!

The heavy section. Lmg's have tufts to the back, rpg's are easier to spot, so no tufts for them.

Technicals, I picked up these pickups at a toy department in a supermarket.

The armour. Not sure if the insurgents could handle these, I might need some of Saddam's loyalists.

Mr. VIP and his bulletproof car, or so he hopes..

I got some US models left, why not make a small SOF team? You never know when you need them!
